Firearms Training in Lone Tree, Colorado
Concealed carry permits, the state firearms safety course, and private instruction for Lone Tree residents.
Lone Tree to our Parker location is one of the shortest drives of anywhere we serve — a short hop east.
Your permit comes from the Douglas County Sheriff
Lone Tree is in Douglas County, so your concealed handgun permit is issued by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
- Applications are online only through the county’s electronic portal, required since August 2025.
- Your training certificate must come from a verified instructor and be dated within one year of applying. A certificate from a class you took several years ago will not be accepted.
John Rader is Douglas County Verified Firearms Instructor #25037 — the certificate you leave with is exactly the one that office is looking for.
Confirm the current process with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office before you apply.
Classes we teach for Lone Tree students
- Basics of Pistol Shooting — Colorado CCW · 8 hours · $150. Satisfies the state training requirement for your permit.

- Colorado Firearms Safety Course (SB25-003) · 4 hours $125, 12 hours $249. Required before you can buy a specified semiautomatic firearm.
- Rifle, shotgun and self-defense · $125 each.
- Private instruction · $450. One-on-one, built around what you actually need.
Private and workplace training
Lone Tree is a small city with a large daytime population — corporate campuses and offices whose staff live all over the south metro. That shapes what people ask us for here, and it is different from anywhere else we teach.
Two requests come up constantly:
- Private, one-on-one instruction · $450. People who would rather not learn in a room of strangers, or who want the whole session built around one specific thing — a new carry pistol, a draw that has gone sloppy, a spouse who is nervous around the safe.
- Active Shooter Response Training · $150. Requested by employers, HOAs and congregations. It is not a shooting class; it is what to do in the first ten seconds, and it is taught by someone who spent twenty-five years going toward those calls.
We are training only — no range membership to sell, no firearms on a shelf. Whatever you book, nothing at the end of it is a sales pitch.
